AI Overviews
AI Overviews are Google's AI-generated summaries that appear above traditional search results, synthesizing information from multiple sources into a single answer block.
How They Work
When Google detects a query that benefits from a synthesized answer, it generates an AI Overview using its Gemini model. The overview pulls information from multiple web sources, cites them with clickable links, and presents a consolidated answer. Sources that appear in AI Overviews get significant visibility even if users never click through.
AI Overviews vs AI Mode
AI Overviews appear alongside traditional organic results — they supplement the SERP. AI Mode replaces organic results entirely with a conversational AI interface. AI Overviews trigger automatically; AI Mode requires the user to opt in.
How to Appear in AI Overviews
