Rankeo SEO & GEO Methodology Glossary
The definitive glossary of Generative Engine Optimization and SEO — 31 concepts · 17 proprietary · 14 foundational. Proprietary terms are created by Jonathan Jean-Philippe at Rankeo. Every term ships DefinedTerm schema for Knowledge Graph registration.
Semantic Branding
→The process of creating proprietary terminology and securing its attribution within the Knowledge Graph via structured data infrastructure, so AI engines cannot define the term without citing its creator.
Search Intent Displacement
→Practice of reframing user queries by inserting your proprietary terminology into their everyday vocabulary, so AI engines must cite your source to answer completely.
Answer Engine Ranking
→The discipline of ranking your content where AI engines deliver answers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Google AI Overviews). Coined by Jonathan Jean-Philippe at Rankeo. Operating principle of the platform — "Rank where answers live."
Pressure SEO
→Proprietary Rankeo methodology that forces AI citation via structural precision on three simultaneous pillars: Structural Pressure, Extraction Pressure and Salience Pressure.
Structural Pressure
→The first pillar of Pressure SEO. Use of a unified @graph JSON-LD architecture that links author, organization and content entities in a coherent graph AI engines can parse instantly.
Extraction Pressure
→The second pillar of Pressure SEO. Practice of placing a 40-60 word Answer Capsule at the very start of each major content section, phrased as a direct answer to a likely user question.
Salience Pressure
→The third pillar of Pressure SEO. Maintaining a named-entity density between 15% and 20% in body content to maximize relevance signals in LLM RAG systems.
Answer Capsules
→Extractable 40-60 word paragraphs engineered to be cited verbatim by AI engines as the direct answer to a user query. They operationalize Extraction Pressure.
Schema-Stitch
→Technique for cross-linking entities across the pages of a website via shared @id references. Operationalizes Structural Pressure by producing a unified knowledge graph that spans every surface of the site.
Semantic Suture
→Binding unstructured content (articles, case studies) to structured entities (tools, organizations) via @id references, transferring authority to commercial entities in the Knowledge Graph.
Data-Baiting
→The practice of publishing proprietary data (benchmarks, studies, original statistics) specifically engineered to be cited by AI engines as authority source on a topic.
Trust Swap
→Transfer of authority between multiple domains of the same ecosystem via shared entity relationships in the Knowledge Graph. Lets a new site start with the authority accumulated by the existing ones.
Programmatic Social Proof
→Template-based social video at scale (Industry × City × AI Engine × Query). One formula generates 900+ unique short-form videos. Coined by Jonathan Jean-Philippe at Rankeo.
Rankeo Chunk Test
→A proprietary 3-question method for verifying whether a piece of content is properly chunkable by Large Language Models and, consequently, extractable in AI-generated responses.
Distribution Blitz 72h
→A proprietary Rankeo protocol for deploying 6 to 8 synchronized content touchpoints across platforms within a 72-hour window. Triggers multi-source consensus signals in AI engines, amplifying citation rates by up to 5x.
Rankeo Score
→Composite 0-100 metric combining SEO Score and GEO Score into a single measure of website visibility across Google and AI search engines.
GEO Score
→Metric measuring a website's visibility across 5 AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok). Part of the Rankeo Score.
Citation Readiness
→Score measuring how likely a page is to be cited by AI engines. Based on front-loading, entity density, definitive language, readability, H2 questions, and capsule links.
Citation Velocity Score
→A proprietary Rankeo metric measuring the rate at which a domain accumulates AI citations compared to its historical baseline. Formula: CVS = (citations last 30 days) / (average monthly citations previous 90 days).
Entity Consistency Index
→A proprietary Rankeo score (0-100) measuring how coherently an entity (person, organization, product) is declared across all its digital surfaces. High ECI signals a single, verifiable, trustworthy source to AI engines.
Entity Registry
→Centralized database of all entities (brand, people, products, locations) used across a site's schema markup, ensuring consistency for AI engines.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
→The practice of optimizing content for AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Grok to earn citations in AI-generated answers.
E-E-A-T
→Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness — Google's framework for evaluating content quality. Extended to AI engines in 2026.
Knowledge Graph
→Google's database of entities and relationships used to understand real-world things. Foundation of Entity SEO and Semantic Branding strategies.
AI Overviews
→Google's AI-generated summaries appearing above traditional search results. Different from AI Mode which replaces organic results entirely.
JSON-LD
→JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data — the recommended format for structured data markup that search engines and AI engines use to understand page content.
Zero-Click Search
→A search query where the user gets the answer directly on the results page without clicking through to any website. 80% of Google searches in 2026.
YMYL
→Your Money or Your Life — Google's classification for pages about topics that could impact health, finances, safety, or well-being. Requires highest E-E-A-T standards.
Featured Snippets
→Highlighted search results appearing above organic results on Google, showing a direct answer extracted from a web page. Precursor to AI Overviews.
Topical Authority
→A site's perceived expertise on a topic, built through comprehensive content coverage, internal linking, and consistent entity signals across multiple pages.
Schema @graph
→A JSON-LD structure that contains multiple schema entities in a single script tag, connected via @id references. The foundation of Structural Pressure.
